The bar test

Hey,

It's Rickson.

Imagine you walk into a bar, you sit down, order a drink.

The guy next to you also gets a drink.

You realise he didn't come in with other people, so you start talking to him, building rapport.

And let's say you're a chiropractor, then he says 'Man, not sure why but my lower back is always sore', in that moment, would you say to him 'Get your lower back less sore by booking a session with me'?

Probably not, sounds very salesy.

You would probably say something like 'That's funny actually, I'm a chiropractor and I definitely think I could help you with that, how long has this been going on for?'.

This sounds human and like a conversation, and people actually like talking to humans.

This is the bar test, so next time you're writing something for your website, your ad, your email, scripts, ask yourself: 'Would I say this to someone in a bar?'

If not, change it to something you would.
